How Long Should I be Sore After Weight Lifting?

If you haven’t experienced it before, you may find out from your personal trainer that soreness after an exercise is a very common thing. Sometimes a heavy workout can leave your muscles sore and leave you wondering whether you over- exerted yourself in the gym. If it hurts to hold your arm up as you try to brush your teeth, you probably need to rest a few days before you try again! In fact, you can over-exert yourself when you exercise but the pain that comes a couple days later is nothing to be alarmed about. This is just the natural process of muscles healing, after they have been stressed and strained.

At Vitality Personal Training, you will come to understand how, anytime you try something new for your body, you will experience muscle soreness. Nevertheless, the problem will usually be gone in two-three days and cases that last as much as a week are not unheard of when people overexert themselves in the gym. A gradually increasing discomfort will take place between 24 and 48 hours after your workout is over and it is perfectly normal. Then it will take anywhere from three to five days before this pain disappears.

At Vitality Personal Training in Las Vegas, we can help you to understand the problems you experience after a workout. You will learn how very small, microscopic tears occur in your muscles and these are due to the strain in the muscle tissue. The damage, along with an inflammation that accompanies the muscle tears, will be what causes the pain. In actuality, these muscle fibers will grow back even stronger than they were and create a healthier, more tone body in the end. This is the reason for the common saying “No pain, no gain.” It is the common phrase that athletes use to describe the discomfort they experience during and immediately after a workout.

At Vitality Personal Training in Las Vegas, you will also learn what athletes know and come to understand own limits. In fact, you may learn how much is too much after the first time you find yourself straining to walk up a flight of stairs the next day! Ouch! Problems like these usually don’t last more than three or four days and will almost always be gone by the end of the week. It is no cause for alarm but more likely an opportunity for you to pat yourself on the back for having given everything you have to your training program. If you think you are ready to run like the athletes and learn a little more about how to set your own limits, call us at Vitality Personal Training today and get started!
